Google's MediaPipe FaceLandmarker maps 478 3D points and a 4×4 3D head-pose matrix on your face, while ImageSegmenter (SelfieMulticlass) isolates exposed facial skin from hair, beards, and glasses. We then measure 6 scientifically validated biomarkers across three domains: (1) Periorbital eye corner lift (canthal tilt), (2) Nasolabial & mouth corner relief, (3) Midface lip-to-nose span (philtrum ratio), (4) Mandibular & lower-face contour, (5) Multi-zone skin microtopography (GLCM smoothness), and (6) ITA-calibrated CIELAB chromatic uniformity. Each marker is compared against peer-reviewed age cohorts (Chen et al., 2015; Wilczok, 2025; Cohen & Thor, 2026; Li et al., 2026).

You can use either! However, we strongly recommend the Live Camera mode for the highest accuracy. Live camera mode actively calibrates your 3D head pitch, iris distance, neutral expression, and ambient lighting before capturing. If you choose Upload Photo, pick a sharp, front-facing portrait in even lighting with a relaxed expression.

Not in standard mode. Both the live camera scan and photo upload run 100% locally in your browser via WebAssembly, so your image never leaves your device. If you optionally toggle on Enhanced AI Analysis, your snapshot is sent to Google's Gemini API to generate a personalized narrative synthesis. Modern Med Life never stores your photo, and under Google's paid API terms it is not used to train AI models.

No—our v2.0 engine uses MediaPipe's SelfieMulticlass semantic segmenter to classify pixels into background, hair, facial skin, clothes, and accessories. Beards, bangs, and eyeglass frames are automatically masked out so surface texture (GLCM) and CIELAB optical tone are only measured on true exposed facial skin.

Following the translational diagnostic framework by Cohen & Thor (2026), our engine calculates your Individual Typology Angle (ITA°) in CIELAB color space (correlating with Fitzpatrick phototypes I–VI) and calibrates chromatic uniformity against your own baseline skin tone so lighter and darker complexions are evaluated without bias.
